The PCSS Gender and Sexuality Alliance exists for students and staff of all backgrounds, orientations and identities. The GSA works diligently to increase acceptance of marginalized groups and to eradicate discrimination and bullying. The PCSS GSA hosts the PCSS Rainbow Room, which is our school's safe space. It is a welcoming, social and educational space for all of Porter Creek Secondary's students.

In order to help our students thrive, every decision we make must relate to each of the following tenets:
Conversion Therapy?Conversion Therapy is a discredited practice which aims to change someone's sexual orientation or gender identity through counselling, behaviour modification or medication. It has been declared scientifically unsound and harmful to those subjected to it. 2SLGBTQ youth are not broken and do not need to be fixed. That is why the PCSS GSA worked so hard to ensure that this barbaric practice is no longer legal in the Yukon.

That's so gay!Well, some of us are. And lots of us aren't. And it's all awesome. There are some expectations in our space, including recognition that words matter. Be aware of the words that you choose, so that respect and consideration are shown to everyone. You get what you give!

“Conversion therapy” has been a major issue for 2SLGBTQ youth for decades, or perhaps even longer. It is often used in Christian communities to encourage queer youth to use religion to combat their homosexual desires. Anthony Venn Brown underwent such therapy in Australia and later publicly denounced such programs. He advocated for the abolition of such programs by describing the damage that they do to 2SLGBTQ youth who are forced to undergo them, as well as the damage that lack of acceptance can have on the entire community.
